Road racing debut at Motor Sport Ranch in Ft. Worth
Our Lemon Bimmer Project, conceived as an experiment in
racing on a budget, built up from a parts car, had its track
debut this weekend in Ft. Worth, TX. The 1.7 mile short
course there is an exciting racing venue, and almost 20
BMW Club Racers gathered for the first club race in the
region. Early and late M3 cars in various states of modification
made up the bulk of the field with experienced drivers and
these guys are fast. Way faster than any unmodified e30
can ever be.
But still it's alot of fun to be out there racing. Ahmad
Lutfeali flew in from Atlanta to drive the car, since he'll
be one of the drivers this summer in the 24 Hours of Lemons
race in California. George Adkins drove the car up to Ft.
Worth, using less than a half a tank of gas, then Ahmad
drove the car for practice, qualifying, and racing on Saturday
- using only a 1/4 tank more. THIS is budget racing - the
car didn't need any work throughout the whole weekend, and
barely used any gas. And finished first in class! Wow!

Here's a Pirate Update from Ahmad, driver of Lemon Bimmer:
"This past weekend at MSR was
surely a blast. Thanks to Bob M for hosting a
great event. The track is quite technical and the Texan
JP boys love door to
door racing ;)
Terry Sayther provided me an opportunity to arrive and drive
in the E30 325i
which he has built for the 24 Hours of Lemons race.
Well, racing does not have to be expensive (to have fun
;) Boy, that
thing is a hoot to drive (heck we even broke the KP track
record in a $500
car). Terry and his team has been working diligently and
were ready for this,
this car was driven to and from the track, not to mention
Terry did some 16
odd hours of racing in Mexico.
I wanted to thank the Lone Star Chapter for a wonderful
weekend; for those
of you who have not been to MSR, its worth the haul (IMHO)".
