Around the world
in a 1928 BMW DIXI panel truck

Herbert and Phillip Nocker are driving their BMW around the world over the next couple of years.  Starting from Rottenbuch in Southern Bavaria, Germany, Herbert and Phillip are driving the car to Emden, Germany; shipping it to Baltimore, driving through Washington, D.C., Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Mexico, Central America, Shipping to Ecuador, driving to Chile.  From South America they sail to Eastern Australia where they will drive to western Australia through the outback.  From there a ship to Asia to drive through Java, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, and finally north to home.

Quite a trip, wouldn't you say?  Herbert’s Dixi Panel Truck was chosen carefully for this trip because of it’s more rugged construction and because it has more storage space than the regular Dixi cars. For example, it comes with steel disc wheels, instead of the more fragile wire wheels. The 4-cylinder engine has been bored slightly to give 750cc of BMW muscle---transmitted to the rear through the stock UNsynchronized transmission. Crunch. (Acting on the theory that whatever spare parts you carry will never be needed, Herbert is carrying ONE spare piston along on the trip.) Herbert made life easier by converting the truck to 12 volts and adding a small alternator and a modern starter. No hand cranking! Pulling the truck down from high speeds is accomplished through cable operated brake shoes...

20th.Nov.03--Teotihuacan, Mexico "very Hilly..." Herbert and Phillip have gone through Monterrey and Cuidad Valles and said everything there is very beautiful.
