I. The Idea

So…..hypothetical situation, right? Picture this----say they made a car, maybe 30 years ago and
you'd owned one of these cars and worked on these cars for maybe 25 years. Then say they
named the car after some number, say 2002, and then, suddenly, it was the year 2002, and then,
say, somebody noticed that the car and the year had the same name and somebody said "Hey,
that's rare. Let's have a party and invite other people who noticed this." So, say they made a party
in some paradisiacal place like the south of France or the Alpine mountains of southern Germany
and it was a theme party----like everybody would actually have to bring a 2002. So----you'd
HAVE to go, right? It's just the logical thing….impossible to miss. Yeah, that's what we thought,
too. Well, guess what? They made the car, they noticed the year, they made the party, they invited
2002 owners, AND WE WENT!!

II. The Decision

Debbie and I first started talking about taking a car to the German '02 Festival during 2001, but
we made no firm plans and heard nothing more about the actual event until the 02-02-02 Texas
2002 Fest in Brenham. While we were there in Brenham, Bob Murphy mentioned to us that there
really was going to be a celebration of the 2002 in Germany, and that it would take place in
Bavaria in late May. That first week in February we talked about going, we looked at our
schedules, we looked several times at our finances, we thought about the possible impact on our
business-----and we decided to go. Two additional factors helped the decision along. The
International Microcar Convention was being held in early May at the town of Story, Germany, in
early May, and in mid-May the French were also having a giant party to celebrate the 2002.

III. The Problem

Time. To be able to get the car to Europe for the month of May, we would have to deliver the car
to the port three to five weeks earlier depending on what port we chose. That is, to ship from
Galveston we would have to deliver the car to the port in late March; beginning of April would be
OK from South Carolina, and the last possibility would be mid-April from Baltimore. That left us
six to eight weeks to get the car ready. Sounds like plenty, right? Read on.
