Make It Safe, Bubba!

Roll cage time. We had no idea how hard it was going to be to get the roll cage built. It took us a year. No kidding. Austin is apparently in tremendous need of more cage builders. Our cage was finally built by Manny's in East Austin for $4500, more than twice the price of anybody else. Manny was not only really expensive and really slow, but he had to be told to put in some cross bracing and he put the main hoop directly over the driver's sitting position, necessitating complete redesign of the seat mounts to allow helmet clearance. Not a pleasant transaction. Oh, well.

Seat belts next. With the cage installed and the seats relocated the new 5-point Simpson seat belts could be installed and then we could install the window nets for both sides. Finally, we put in the fire system with nozzles for both the driver compartment and engine bay.
