This is the day-by-day story of one teams' journey
to the Mexican road race called La Carrera Panamericana and then
their participation in that race. The team is called the 'Terry
and the Pirates Race Team' and it is comprised of Terry Sayther
(piloto), Brandon Littleton (co-piloto), Debbie Stuart (the boss),
Will Bailey (sub-jefe), Rick Michel (also sub-jefe), and the support
crew at Terry Sayther Automotive in Austin, Texas. The car is a
1958 BMW 502, powered by a small, original, all-aluminum V8 engine.
It competed in the Original Pan Am Class, the slowest class in the
event, though even that class is not slow.

We left Austin about 2PM for San Marcos, to meet the Peter, Paul, and Bud Show---Peter Vigliano and his crew from Dripping Springs---who would be traveling
with us for the journey south. We all crossed the border at Laredo and spent a few
hours getting our papers in order. Debbie did all the necessary border schmoozing since the
truck and trailer titles were in her name, and at the minor price of two team t-shirts, we
were in.
Saturday, 10/19/02, Nuevo Laredo south to San Juan Del Rio Just a long day of driving, finally getting to San Juan Del Rio for the night, about
a hundred miles north of Mexico City. While we were checking into our hotel, Jose
Calderon of Mexico City introduced himself to us. He had noticed our cars as he was
driving by and stopped to say hello. Jose is one of the Carrera event organizers, and
his help proved invaluable throughout the course of the event. It's a small world. Home
