So, here's the deal. You can't just bolt it on because the 38mm bores
are too big for the holes in the manifold. The manifold has to have the
throttle bores ground or machined larger to accommodate the larger throttle
plates. This can be done one of two ways. You can remove the manifold,
scribe it with the outline of the center hole from a 38mm base gasket, and
then grind away the excess aluminum, or do it the easy way, by buying an
already machined manifold for the carb from Metric Mechanic. Jim Rowe,
from MM, has manifolds and carburetors ready to go, with gaskets and
filters, etc as a kit. That's the best and simplest route. Jim says that the
carburetors he supplies have been rejetted especially for this application.
Once the manifold is ready, it bolts to the head with new gaskets and
the carb bolts onto the manifold with new gaskets and a heat spacer. The
throttle linkage attaches in the same way as with the DGV Weber, the fuel
line is the same, the air filter is the same, and the electric choke uses any
wire that becomes hot when the ignition key is turned on.
